Car seat safety

A car seat is one of the first things to buy for a newborn baby - it's essential for the journey home from the hospital. Here we explain some of the important safety features designed to protect your little one on the move

ISOFIX - An internationally standardised car seat fitting system. It automatically locks your car seat - or car seat base - onto two metal clips (ISOFIX fixing points) behind the vehicle seats of your car.

i-Size - Also known as ECE R129, is the latest EU safety standard and increases the safety level for children in cars. The R129 legislation is based on a child's height rather than weight and provides extra protection for the child's head and neck. The legislation also states that your child must travel rearward-facing for a minimum of 15 months.

Side Impact Protection - A robust and reliable side protection system is vital to help protect your child in a car accident.

Safety Harness - Make sure the child's harness is straight with no twists and tightly fastened. There should be space for only 1 finger between the chest straps and the child's body.

Rearward-facing - Experts recommend that your child should travel rearward-facing for as long as possible, up to the age of around four years old.
